Coyote Sightings

We have had multiple residents with coyote sightings on and around the property recently. These sightings have happened at all times of the day.

I spoke to Florida Fish and Wildlife about them and asked for direction.

They stated that coyote sightings are very common this time of year and happen every year. The number of sightings this year is no higher than prior years. It just seems that they are closer to us than usual.

The best way to address this is to be aware and try to remove any incentive they have to hang around here.

First and foremost we need to remove or eliminate any food source. This means no pet food outside (especially outside of your lanai). Bird food counts as well. Also, trash cans should be inside except on pick up days and then should be kept closed and no bags left outside of the bins.

If you see any using drainage pipes for nesting, we need to be notified immediately.

If you should encounter a coyote while out walking your dog, its recommended that you pick up your dog and then make loud noise to scare them away. They generally run away challenged. We all need to work together to make our community less appealing, so they move elsewhere.
