AC Safety Switch

Q:  How to test the safety switch on the AC condensate drain line?

A:  Lower the temperature in the home to ensure the AC system will remain on.  Remove the safety switch from its housing and turn it upside down to simulate the float being lifted by a blockage.  The outdoor compressor will shut off immediately, the indoor blower will shut off within a few minutes (5 minutes max).

* If system shuts off, the switch is operating properly.  Place the switch back into the housing and adjust the temperature.
* If the AC system continues to operate ensure the problem is investigated.
It is important to never bypass, remove or operate the AC system without this switch back in place.  AC condensate drain line blockages lead to water damage and mold problems.
